The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme – Mahatma Award for securing first place in Kannur district was awarded to Chokli Grama Panchayat. The award was received based on the evaluation of the Employment Guarantee Scheme activities carried out during the year 2024–25.

The projects implemented mainly focused on water conservation and the agricultural sector. These included the construction of rain pits, the creation of earthen bunds, and the protection of existing canals using coir geotextiles. Such activities were undertaken with importance given to increasing the groundwater level.

In addition, land development works and agricultural activities were also implemented as part of the scheme. Under infrastructure development, rural road construction and drainage construction works were successfully carried out.

During the year 2024–25, a total expenditure of ₹3,02,38,000 was incurred under the scheme. Out of this, ₹2,15,78,000 was spent on workers’ wages, while the remaining amount was utilized for material expenses.
